Inserm Symposium in the Human Developmental Cell Atlas

The Inserm Cross-Cutting Program on the Human Developmental Cell Atlas (HuDeCA) will come to an end in 2024. For this occasion, a final symposium will be held on October 29th 2024 at the hotel Villa M in Paris. This scientific meeting will be an opportunity to present the work carried out during the program and to highlight the scientific advances in the field of development.

A+ / A-

Significant progress has been made in our understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms of vertebrate development. However, our knowledge of the specific features of human embryogenesis is essentially based on anatomical data from the last century and is still very limited.

Establishing the diversity and knowing the embryonic origin of the cells in the human body are essential questions in science and medicine. Understanding how hundreds of cell types differentiate and organise themselves into tissues and organs is crucial for understanding the normal functioning of the human body and its disruption in patients suffering from congenital diseases.

To structure the French research in human embryology and fund the development of sample and data collection platforms, Inserm launched a dedicated cross-disciplinary scientific programme in 2018, bringing together eleven research teams. This project is part of the Human Cell Atlas or HCA, an international initiative to map the cells of the normal and pathological human body, both adult and developing.
